Apple Sold More iOS Devices In 2011 Than Macs Ever

Let’s face it. iOS is doing much, much better than the Mac line ever did — and this is a source of concern for many of us Mac users. But just how much is iOS outdoing OS X? Astonishingly so. According to a new report published by Asymco , Apple sold 156 million iOS devices in 2011, and it has only sold 122 million Macs in 28 years. That’s astonishing. In fact, the cumulative total of iOS devices is 316 million units, that’s more than one device for every man, woman, and child in the USA.

With more and more features being brought from iOS to OS X (which has now lost the Mac designation), there’s a very real fear amongst the Apple community that the computer side of Apple is withering. While I don’t think Apple’s going to be putting iOS on your Macbook anytime soon, I think people are right to be worried that OS X is going to receive less and less attention from Apple, and potentially suffer for it.
